Environmental Causes of Hair Loss

The environment has just as big of a role in the growth of your hair as your diet and lifestyle. Different environmental changes can take its toll on your hair if you are not careful when you go outside. There are a number of environmental problems that can cause hair loss and they are detailed below.

Humidity

Excess humidity can put strain on your hair. Many people experience dramatic hair changes when the weather is abnormally humid. The reason being is that humid weather will either cause the scalp to over produce oils, or dry the hair and scalp out entirely. If you are not used to humid weather, extra hair loss may occur.

Like humidity dry weather can also cause hair loss for some individuals that are sensitive to extreme weather conditions.

Pollution

Pollution is a major cause of hair loss that occurs by environmental conditions. Toxins in the air get into your body and can cause damage to the hair. Individuals that live in very polluted areas are more likely to experience hair loss trouble as well as dry hair or brittle hair.

Pollution in bigger cities is a major problem and can not only damage your hair but also your skin. Smokers and car exhaust fumes emit dangerous chemicals into the air that cause break down and oxidation of your hair, skin, and even nails.

Wind

Yes, wind can cause hair loss! If you live in a very windy environment then it is likely that your hair is put under a lot of stress. This mainly happens to females with longer hair. If you live in a windy place, keep your hair in a loose braid or pony tail to prevent further damage to the hair.

The Sun

Exposing your hair to the sun too often has been proven to cause early hair loss in females and males. This can be avoided if you use sunblock for hair and scalp as well as wear a hat if you are in the sun for too long.

Environmental damages are a serious problem in today’s world. Taking special steps to prevent these damages is the best way to avoid hair loss caused by them. Different hair loss products are great for treating the hair loss and thickening the hair again. If thinning has occurred a thickening shampoo is your best bet. If other hair conditions are present then a more serious treatment plan is recommended.
